Lake Como, Italy: What To Do When Visiting This Italian Gem

DSC_0850.jpg

Home to the rich and famous, including Richard Branson, George Clooney and the late Gianni Versace, I can honestly say Lake Como is the most breathtaking place I have visited (so far!). The pure natural beauty of this place is remarkable.

Entering Lake Como, you drive along narrow roads nestled against the lake with lush greenery surrounding you amongst the Alps and water-banks.  The various villages are sprinkled throughout; offering an abundance of charm and tranquillity.

This trip was especially memorable because it was in celebration of my sister and brother-in-law's 1-year wedding anniversary and JD's 31st birthday! For our stay, we rented an airbnb in the cozy and quaint village of Mennagio. Our condo sat high on the mountain which gave us stunning picturesque views - perfect for enjoying our morning coffee (y'all know how I love my coffee time ;) ). Menaggio offered cute cafes, local shops and lake front restaurants to delight in - and not to mention how pleasant and welcoming everyone was there!

If Lake Como is on your bucket-list, then here are a few things to do while there:

1. BOAT TOURS

There are several public or private boat tours you can book. This is by far the best way to soak in the beautiful views while doing some sight-seeing. Around the lake there are numerous iconic Villas - such as Villa del Balbianello, known for its role in Star Wars Episode II + Casino Royale and Villa La Gaeta, also featured in Casino Royale.

2. VILLA TOURS

If you're a Star Wars or James Bond fan - then the 2 villages mentioned above are for you! We toured the historic Villa Carlotte (pictured right) which featured a botanical garden full of flowers, citrus trees and an olive grove - all lake front too!

3. GRAND HOTEL TREMEZZO

This STUNNING hotel is worth popping into - enjoy a refreshing cocktail at the hotel's bar on the lake or head towards the pool side Pizza Parlor for a tasty lunch, all with beautiful views facing the village of Bellagio.

4. LAKE LIFE MENTALITY

Lake Como is peaceful, calm and laid back - you should definitely take advantage of the lake life mentality and truly relax while immersing yourself in the beauty!

Wine tasting, hiking, food tours and more are offered in this Italian gem too :)

Take the time to enjoy the earth’s natural beauty, and smile that you’re a part of it.
